When was a time you felt like you weren’t enough?
Who knew one little question could bring out so much among a group of eight women? From feeling like love had to be earned through performance, to enduring deep wounds from loved ones, every woman in the room could pinpoint a moment in life—or a whole season—when she felt like she was just not enough.
The beautiful thing was that, although sharing these hurts was painful, it was this very vulnerability that facilitated connection at The Truly Retreat. You could see a common thread connecting each woman in the room, and with each shared story, the thread grew longer. With each “not enough” moment voiced, there was another woman standing in her truth. And you could relate to her, because you saw your own real self reflected in her honesty.
“This has been a life-changing experience. I’ve been to lots of women’s retreats, and none of them have been as powerful as this one. During the sessions, I got to see other women for who they really are. No one was pretending. It was just genuine, intimate fellowship. I learned that there’s power in vulnerability. I think of the word ‘truly’ as the foundation of everything that happened this weekend. It was grounded in truth—truth about yourself, truth about other people’s stories—and that truth brings freedom. I appreciated that the presenters were raw and real, and honest about where they are in their own journeys. Every woman, no matter where they are in life, can benefit from a retreat like this. There’s always room for growth and room to develop genuine friendships.” – Alma
This was the idea we kept returning to throughout the retreat—there is freedom
The intimacy of the retreat, coupled with the immense effort put forth by the hosts to create a stunning and inviting atmosphere, produced an environment where everyone really felt free to let their guard down. And that freedom led to some very powerful moments. It also allowed everyone to get the most out of the sessions.
On the first evening of the retreat, we were greeted with an incredible welcome dinner. From the delicious food to the breathtaking decor, we were blown away by the experience. There was just something so soothing about the visual beauty of the setting that allowed everyone to relax and feel comfortable, and it really set the stage for all of the important reflection and conversation we would have throughout the weekend.
“When I registered for the Truly Retreat, I didn’t really have an expectation. I just wanted to come to connect with other women and try to understand myself better. It ended up being so much more than that. It was fulfilling in every way. I’ve been to several different retreats—including some really popular ones—and this has been the one I’ve gotten the most from. What really sets this retreat apart is the intimacy. I got to learn everyone’s story, and we all had something to offer each other. I really felt heard. I felt God here.” – Amanda
The next day, we enjoyed a savory breakfast together before diving into the You Are Enough session, where we tackled our feelings of not being enough. We were encouraged to discuss the ways we felt we weren’t enough and to journal about those emotions. Then we were given practical action items to help us overcome those insecurities and walk in freedom.
In the Lose Control session, we learned about calling out the things that are holding us back in life. Comparison. Fear. Anxiety. Expectation. Whatever it was, we called it out, and we wrote it down. Again, practical steps for overcoming those personal demons really brought it home for everyone, allowing them to walk away with the tools to let go of control and trust God to fulfill His promises.
Our last session that day was a hands-on activity with special significance. We put together terrariums, and with each step, we were given thoughtful steps to blooming where we’re planted. Each piece of the terrarium correlated to an idea for cultivating beauty and purpose in our lives. After such an intense day of self-discovery and processing emotions, the Bloom Where You Are Planted session was the perfect way to unwind and soak in all the goodness and love around us.
On the final day of the retreat, each attendee was given a private session with Hannah, the licensed counselor who facilitated some of our deep conversations throughout the weekend. Hannah’s insight, expertise and compassion were an invaluable piece of the retreat, and each attendee greatly benefited from her presence. Several attendees expressed their appreciation that the value of their experiences was so honored during the retreat, and that discussions of mental health—sometimes taboo in Christian circles—were encouraged and guided well by Hannah.
And of course, we wrapped up the retreat with boudoir sessions. Perhaps nothing convinces a woman she is truly enough quite like the experience of boudoir. We will all look back on those photos and remember how we felt at the end of this amazing retreat—loved, understood, blessedly unique, and, above all, enough.
“The Truly Retreat was nothing short of a therapeutic experience. We spent the weekend connecting with God and with one another, and it was so refreshing to be in authentic community with women who felt empowered to be themselves. Processing our deeply held emotions brought us all to a place of raw honesty and vulnerability—but instead of feeling scary, it felt like a gift. The women who put this together genuinely care about this ministry and desire to see their sisters flourish and embrace who God created them to be.” – Chelsea
